“Art is the only way to run away without leaving home.” Twyla Tharp
Today, I was working on some new cityscapes of Venice. The sun was shining through my studio window and I could imagine that I was actually there for a moment...but…
then the sky darkened and flurries of huge hailstones battered against the window.
The stark contrast of the view I was painting, to the weather outside, made me remember the above quote. It also occured to me, that this is often why people connect with paintings of places, as they capture not only the essence of a place, but a moment of weather and light, that perhaps we would rather be experiencing. I know where I’d rather be!
